We are lucky enough to have a selection of fabulous local artists and creatives, whose work we exhibit within the restaurant.
We also, where possible, passionately support local food producers, whose produce we use in our menu.
Resident Artist – Rhueart Gallery
Our walls are adorned with artwork courtesy of Rhueart run by Sam’s parents. It is the open studio and exhibition space of James Hawkins, considered to be one of the best contemporary landscape painters in Scotland. Alongside there is another beautiful gallery showing changing exhibitions by other Artists; all of whose work is influenced by the natural environment. Visitors are always welcome to the gallery.
Fergus Stewart – Assynt Ceramics
Fergus Stewart is an internationally known ceramicist and producer of unique hand-thrown functional and decorative pieces, for use in the kitchen and on the table.
“Over time, I have developed a diverse repertoire of domestic and decorative forms that employ a comprehensive range of traditional pottery skills in their making and firing, creating a family of forms related by shared characteristics within the design, making and firing, sometimes challenging traditional concepts about use, and the presentation of food.”
I work primarily at the wheel, throwing, altering and constructing by joining thrown forms to slabs and stretched thrown components. Many forms are finished away from the wheel by cutting and carving. Decorating and creating surfaces often incorporate local materials, with coloured slips and glaze in the green and bisque stages.
Linda Lashford
We don’t always get the chance to reinvent ourselves, but Linda has done exactly that. Over a decade ago, she gave up her career in cancer medicine and began a semi nomadic life as a traveller, writer and professional photographer.
The images she creates arise out of her encounters with both landscape and people. Her documentary images embrace themes of ageing, tradition and community. Her landscape images are suffused by a sense of ‘otherness’, of worlds beyond the immediately discernible.
Mairearead Green
Our incredibly talented, local visual artist and musician Mairearead, from Achiltibuie.
“Responding instinctively to the ever-changing environment, I mostly work en plein air using acrylic paint on board or canvas. The elemental power of the sky, the land and the sea, as the weather disperses and scatters in an instant, gives a fascinating array of colour, density, turbulence, excitement, and surprise. I endeavour to capture this energy through tone, texture and mark making in my work and also through the recording of five improvised weather pieces to accompany the visual art, each crashing wave, gust of wind or splash of rain as it awakens my senses”
Helen Denerley
Giraffes – a landmark in the centre of Edinburgh. A great friend, Helen lives and works on a remote hillside in North East Scotland. Since graduating from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in 1977 she has worked continuously as a sculptor. Best known in Scotland for her larger than life scrap metal giraffes on Leith Walk in Edinburgh, her work has been commissioned in Japan and South Georgia and is in collections across the UK. We are absolutely thrilled to showcase her beautiful Peacock here at Delilah’s restaurant.
Greenlees’ Butcher
Greenlees’ Butcher, Lochinver, is a family owned Butcher just along the road from us. Wherever possible, we try to support other local businesses and we are delighted to have such a fabulous butcher in such close proximity. We highly recommend you drop in if staying in the area.
Highland Stoneware
Highland Stoneware was formed in 1974, by David Grant, while studying at the Royal College of Art in London. He is still very actively involved with the Company, and decorates many of the current designs. He then set up his shops in both Lochinver & Ullapool, in order to make tableware with the quality of studio pottery, but also using semi-industrial techniques. We worked with the fantastic local ladies at the Highland Stoneware in Lochinver, to create a design which encapsulates Delilah’s surroundings and colours just perfectly.
